P002 → grounding
Series of art objects
2024
I think art is a piece of the artist’s personal life captured in imag- es. It’s a kind of diary with visual notes. I named my new series of objects “Grounding.” In electrical engineering, “Grounding” is the intentional electrical connection of some point in a network, elec- trical installation, or equipment to a grounding device. Grounding is used to protect against the dangerous effects of electric current by reducing touch voltage to a safe level for humans and animals. For this series, I used found objects at vineyard: grapevines, various types of stones, and metal. I observed the wine production, smelled the scents, and studied the language. In the series, I tried to capture the sum of these observations. The names of the objects are artistic inventions vwith partial elements мof documentary.
ESSAY:
Actually, it’s hard for me to imagine what electricity really is. After all, it’s everywhere and always present, but I can only perceive it through instruments. This has always amazed me. I first realized this when studying sound synthesis. Electricity en- ters a device, which transforms it into sound, music, mood, emo- tion. Yes, in this context, there’s just one step from electricity to love. And all these terms from the textbook sound somewhat poetic: “Insufficient or improper grounding can lead to the ap- pearance of electrical noise and interference in the audio signal.” Or “In the process of interact- ing with other devices, proper grounding can ensure correct synchronization and prevent unintended interference.” It even sounds a bit magical in some ways: “Grounding is also used to create a protective shield that prevents the impact of external electromagnetic fields on signals inside the synthesizer. This is especially important to avoid ex- ternal interference, such as radio frequency interference.”
