ba-su-sc-an
Created during a two-month residency at Studio Mirante (Lisbon), the Ba-Su-Sc-An series translates the qualities of textiles—folds, suppleness, fluidity—into the solidity of ceramics. Tanya Prystavka explores how the soft, shifting forms of fabric can become defined, dynamic ceramic sculptures that interact with light and shadow. This artistic approach echoes the sensibility of Italian architect Carlo Scarpa, who transformed the folds of textiles into delicate architectural forms, highlighting the subtle interplay between material, space, and perception.
pet exhibition
In this project, I reflect on ephemerality of the notion of home.
We rarely attach the word ‘home’ to a physical place. We use this word to define an abstract space (not even a physical but an emotional one). Today, those immutable meanings are changing. Home, as the place with people who are closest to us, is being transferred to the internet.
Since my move to another city, these reflections have been translated into visual images based on temporary and eternal categories. In my project, ceramics is an «eternal» material which is in contradiction with a depicted object itself (the cobwebs or clothes as something domestic and dilapidated).
Green spiders live in the special tiled space. These «pets» appear there as important components of the domestic life. The «pets» are symbolically linked to well-being and happiness.
stuck in textures
As part of the festival «Archstoyanie.kids»
Settings breakdown. A gaming universe that became a part of reality.
Digital medium is so closely connected to reality. People often want to zoom objects by using fingers, transform reality or press the «to undo an action» button. The idea of the festival is to find a balance. I believe that balance is measured by comparison.
The project ironically compares the two universes, referring to the «stuck in textures» meme.
blue series
Cobalt painting can be found in the ceramic tradition of many countries. This chemical element became popular due to its heat-resistant property. It can be noticed in the Chinese and Japanese porcelain tradition. In the 17th century, cobalt paints began to use in Europe and Russia. The tradition of using cobalt was continued at the Soviet porcelain factories, which still produce dishes
with deep blue color. In my series, I wanted to show this element from another perspective. Cobalt takes on an «electric» effect in a deep-blue version which is referring to the digital environment.
circus module
In my work on the project I started from the image of a street circus. The central character is a man. The circus implies chaos and at the same time carefully thought out and rehearsed actions. The «module» was an important element in my work. The idea of composing the «module» into a complex structure rhymes with the idea of the circus: pyramids of acrobats, balancing structures, circus catwalks. This is the idea that I tried to capture in my work. The shapes and colors refer to the «Triadische Ballet» by Oskar Schlemmer.
The project was produced at the Imperial Porcelain Factory
design objects
By preserving their primary function, these objects become more than just practical tools; they transcend their utilitarian nature and transform into art pieces within a space. In objects, you can find references to the aesthetics of video games, nostalgia from the 2000s, and conceptual plastic solutions.
